Hi
Today I recieved some riccia that I bought from Ebay. Was very happy with it until I noticed a few horrible little things swimming around with my shrimp! They are very fast, have legs but they are definately not shrimp. Looks alot like one of these. Will they harm my shrimp and how do I get rid of them?
Thanks
Karen
En saltbad kanske skulle fungera
Shall I treat the whole tank with the shrimp in there or should I remove them first? What kind of salt and how much? Sorry Im pretty freaked out by these horrible things
thanks
Karen
It’s a märlkräfta
Harmless live-food for fish.
Det ser ut som en liten märlkräfta. Vissa har dom i filtret för de är bra på att hålla rent i filtret. Lättaste sättet att bli av med dom är att mata med en tablett eller liknande och sen suga upp dom med en slang när de sitter på maten.
Phew thats a relief…nothing too nasty. Ive just spent ages trying to catch them but they are too quick so I am going to try your suggestion Sanna. Thanks for the help everyone.

EDIT* Just been in contact with the plant seller and he tells me they are Hyalella azteca and he uses them for live fish food. I explained to him that I only have shrimp in my tank and these critters are not welcome and he should let people know before they bid on Tradera for his plants. Its a nasty surprise!
I found this article earlier about these and shrimp and have gone into another panic. I dont want my baby shrimp to be eaten. The plant seller says that its exaggerated and my shrimp will be ok. What do you think? It translates pretty well with Google translate.
Thanks
Karen

I keep these with my shrimp without any deaths ![]()
I don’t use the adult Hyalella for anything but breeding, but my fish fry live in the shrimptank until they reach 2 cm. They eat the baby Hyalellas.
Do you have expensive shrimp? Like high grade crystals or tigers? If you do, catch the shrimps and kill the Hyalella. But if not, continue as usual, and don’t worry about it.
(You do know that amano shrimp are known to kill and eat adult small fish and shrimp right? And still “we” keep them among other shrimp, since its not very common).
Thanks I think its only if numbers get very high they are a problem. I have removed my shrimp and am going to put my kampfisk in there for a while to get rid of the ones left.
