2009 Sven Schütte imported some Sulawesiräkor. Between the Harlekin and Spinatas he got one female with eggs of an unknown species. From that female and its offspring he managed to build up a whole breeding group.
He sent some of the animals to Werner Klotz to find out what exactly they are. Werner wasn’t sure, so their DNA is now being analysed. Once we get a result of that, I will post it here. So far, Sven calls them “Purple Sulawesi”. The adult animals are around 2 cm long and vary in color. Some are dark purple red, some blood red. Some are even light blue for a while.
Water parameters:
PH 7,8 bis 8
Kh 3
Conductivity 300µs
Temp 28°C (Below 28°C the animals get inactiv and hide)
Here are some photos from Sven (mine are still too shy to take photos):
Right now they look rather redish, yes. I hope once the DNA analysis is finished they get a proper name. I counted them today and all of them are still alive, one has eggs. Unfortunately I rarely see them. Oh well…
Sven called them “Purple Sulawesi”. Dunno why. I have noticed the the yngel are more yellowish. And the females with eggs are a bit dark purple. You cannot buy these räkor through a grossist. I will maybe mail Werner Klotz and ask if he got any results of the DNA test yet so we know what species this is.
