Just got a belated christmas present from my parents: A Fluval 305 External Filter. It looks pretty nifty and you can fill it with lots of different filtermaterials.
So… what do I fill it with ? I am bit confused now… what to use at what level of the filter ?
Level 1: Foam (okay, kinda logical, mechanical filter)
Level 2 & 3:
- Coal (No thanks)
- Zeo-Carb (Coal plus Ammonia remover, don’t think I need that ?)
- Pre-Filter (Supposed to trap heavy particles)
- Ammonia Remover (Don’t think I need that ?)
Level 4 & 5:
-Peat/Torf (But if I use Soil already, I do not need that as well, right?) - Nitrate Remover (Fast acting science grade ion exchange resin; sounds good since the CR are so sensitive, no ?)
- Phosphate remover (don’t think I need this either ?)
- Opti-Carb (Removes toxins, metals, proteins; Does not affect pH, KH and general hardness. Sounds too good to be true ? But do I need it ?)
Level 6 & 7:
-Bio Max Bioballs (Definitely need those!) - Polishing Pad (removes fine particles: but are there any left after all this filtering ? )
