"King Kong, Panda, Red Ruby & Co: Some Facts about Taiwan Bee

Twelf months after Silane showed photos of Taiwan Bee (TB) on shrimpnow.com, the secret about this beautiful and expensive shrimps discloses slowly. Taiwan Bee were shown at Germany at Hannover fair (February 2009) and on the Stuttgart Meeting (March 2009) to a wider public. The have been trivial named as ‘Shadow Shrimp Family’ recently due to their cloudy-like dark pattern in the inner body.

But why do people pay 4.800 Euro for a genetic “lucky bag” (03-2009) – because these shrimps produce offspring from a wide veriety of phenotypes?

Here are some information I collected on German internet pages for all people interested in Taiwan Bee:

TB are similar to Bee Shrimp (CR) and not for unexperienced users: They need soft and lightly acid water, which also has to be very clean. Otherwise, they drop their eggs easily and the shrimplets will disappear.

Due to the fact that Taiwan Bee (TB) are that expansive, the first goal is to get a bigger group and produce offspring. This means black and red Taiwan Bee are best held together. Another trick is to interbreed them with Bee Shrimp (CR). After the group has grown, it is advisable to separate them by color and pattern.

The offspring will mostly not have the parent`s phentype. This is what we know; you may get:

Ruby Red / Wine Red from black TB (King Kong, Panda)
Blue Bolt Shrimp from black TB
Pinkish Snow White and black TB from Ruby Red / Wine Red
The percentage of your offspring depends on the genetic disposition of your P-Generation. Therefore, it can vary a great deal. Red is recessive to black as we know from Bee Shrimp: You will have less red if mixed with black TB. Some people are also trying to crossbreed them with Black Tiger (Black Diamond).

In the end I will not conceal the rumors about TB possibly becoming unfertile in later generations."
